Ingredients

For the dough

  • 15 almonds (15 g)
  • 15 cashews (15 g)
  • 2 cardamoms, peeled
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk powder
  • 2 tbsp cream (malai)
  • 1/2 tsp cocoa powder

For the assembly and filling

  • Melon seeds (for garnish)
  • Rock sugar (mishri), crushed
  • White butter (makhan)

Method

For the dough

  1. Add almonds, cashews, cardamom seeds, and sugar to a grinder jar.

  2. Grind to a fine powder.

  3. Transfer the ground mix into a bowl, add milk powder and cream, then mix and knead into a smooth dough.

  4. Divide off one portion of the dough (about 1/3) and shape it into 3 small balls.

  5. Add cocoa powder to the remaining dough in the bowl and mix thoroughly until evenly colored.

  6. Divide the chocolate dough into 3 equal pieces, larger than the plain dough balls.

For the assembly and filling

  1. Flatten one piece of chocolate dough in your hand into a cup shape.

  2. Place one plain dough ball inside the chocolate dough cup and wrap it completely.

  3. Shape into a small pot (matki) by pinching and lifting the rim at the top.

  4. Repeat for the remaining dough portions to make 3 pot shapes.

  5. Press melon seeds around the outer surface of each pot in decorative rows.

  6. Coarsely crush the rock sugar using a mortar and pestle.

  7. Mix the crushed rock sugar with white butter.

  8. Fill the open top of each sweet pot with a spoonful of the butter-mishri mixture.
