Fool's Gold Loaf

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Italian white bread
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 jar (about 400 g) creamy peanut butter
  • 1 jar (about 400 g) grape jelly or jam
  • 450 g bacon

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Coat the outside of the loaf of Italian white bread completely with the softened butter.

  3. Place the loaf in the oven and bake until golden brown and crispy on the outside, about 10–15 minutes.

  4. Fry the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until very crisp, 8–10 minutes.

  5. Slice the baked loaf of bread in half lengthwise.

  6. Hollow out the bread from both halves, leaving a thick crust rim.

  7. Spread the entire jar of peanut butter evenly inside one hollowed half of the bread.

  8. Spread the entire jar of jelly evenly inside the other hollowed half of the bread.

  9. Fill the sandwich with the cooked crispy bacon, close the loaf, slice, and serve.
